What a lovely service yesterday with people travelling from as far away as  Baza--shows how important Remembrance is. A very moving & dignified service with many appreciative comments from the congregation.

Otra Juan

Attended the Royal British Legion Armistice Day service today--A very moving service with a good crowd attending. The address by their Chaplin, Duncan Burr, was particularly thought provoking.

Camarotes

The Albox Branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding their Armistice Service at Aljambra tomorrow, 11th November 2015.
The Service will start at 10.30 am, but it is advisable to be there at 10.15.

Just to explain that although we are discontinuing the regular Sunday Evening Services at Aljambra, the first of the new additional Thursday Morning Communion Services (without the following meal that's usual on last Thursday of each month) is to be held this coming Thursday at 11.00 am, so hope you may feel able to join us then.

The long established pattern of Evening Prayer on second Sunday of each month will continue, with the next of these being held on Sunday 11th October at 6.00 pm.

The fresh fruit and vegetables were taken straight after the Harvest Service to the Spanish Evangelical Church in Albox, where they were very gratefully received by Pastor Argentino for distribution to many needy with whom he has regular contact.

All the other gifts were collected from the Chapel and delivered to the local food bank in Albox.

How right that we should show our gratitude to God in helping those less fortunate within our community in practical ways.

Aljambra Harvest Festival

Wikipedia says a Harvest Festival is an annual "celebration" when the crops are safely stored for winter, and our service at Aljambra Chapel was indeed a time to celebrate and give thanks for our good fortune in whatever shape or form it takes.  The fellowship, as always, was warm and friendly and if the noise level while sharing lunch was anything to go by, everyone was indeed happy to be there.  The produce collected was donated to local charities.

In view of the apparent lack of enthusiasm for regular Sunday Evening Services at Aljambra, it has been decided to discontinue all but the long established service of Evensong, regularly held on the second Sunday of each Month, after the end of this Month.  It has, however been agreed that we should try having a two Thursday Services each Month, the existing Communion Service on the last Thursday of the Month, followed by lunch, plus an additional one, usually expected to be Communion, on the second Thursday.

So over the coming weeks we will be holding Services as follows:

Sunday 20th September      Evening Prayer and Praise at 6.00 pm

Thursday 24th September   Harvest Celebration with Communion at 11.00 am, followed by a bring and share lunch.

Sunday 27th September      Service of Holy Communion at 6.00 pm

Thursday 8th October           Service of Holy Communion at 11.00 am

Sunday 11th October           Service of Evening Prayer at 6.00 pm

Thursday 29th October        Service of Holy Communion, followed by lunch.

We hope to decorate the chapel for Harvest at 6 pm on the Evening of Wednesday 23rd September, when gifts, to be donated to the local food bank, and help, would be appreciated.

It would also help in preparation if anyone planning to join us for the meal could let me know in advance.

No Service this coming Sunday, 6th September at Aljambra,  but Services as usual at Llanos del Peral and Mojacar, both at 11.00 am.

Next Service at Aljambra is Evensong at 6.00 pm on Sunday 13th September

Communion service on Thursday 27th August at 11.00 am will be taken by Canon Alan Bennett, but in view of the temperature, there will not be a meal at the Chapel following this Service.

The next Service to be followed by a meal is the Harvest Thanksgiving on Thursday 24th September

Despite the intense heat we enjoyed another lovely service of Evensong at Aljambra last Sunday with a very encouraging and thought provoking sermon.  It was also good to chat with everyone afterwards over a cold drink and really delicious homemade meringues (thank you Lyn!).

Lovely Service and Meal on 30th July, with 21 of us enjoying a lovely meal with great company.  We're always amazed we don't get more to these monthly meals as the food is always plenteous and without charge!

No meal however in August - the next being a Harvest bring and share meal on Thursday, September 24th, so get the date in your diary now.

Sunday 26th July there will be a Service of Evening Worship at 6 pm taken by Edwin Bates, our Church Army Captain.

Thursday 30th July there will be our monthly Communion Service at 11 am taken by Rev Pauline, followed by the ever popular social Lunch.  Please let us know if you hope to be there so we can plan catering.

At Mojacar and at Llanos del Peral there will of course be the usual Communion Service at 11 am on Sunday Morning.

Back to normal after the Fiesta, so a Service of Evening Prayer at 6:00 pm this next Sunday, 12th July.

Plus of course normal Communion Services at Mojacar and Llanos del Peral in the Morning at 11:00.

Thursday 25th June; Communion Service at 11:00 at Aljambra, followed by a Social Lunch, hosted by Robert & Lynn Carson.  The lunch, being free (though a donation would be welcome of course), is great value, so do come and join us, though it would help with catering if you could let me know please.

Sunday 5th July, there won't be an evening Service as it's Aljambra Fiesta that weekend.

Great Communion Service tonight (7th June), taken by Alan Bennett, with fantastic hymns.

Next Sunday, 14th June, is to be a more traditional Evensong Service at 6:00 pm.  Hope to see you there then.

Looking further ahead, the next Thursday Morning Communion, followed by Lunch, is at 11:00 am on Thursday 25th June.  There's always plenty to eat/drink and no charge, though of course any donations will be gratefully accepted.  The hosts, providing lunch on this occasion are Robert and Lynn, and Lynn's meringues are to die for!!

Brilliant Service taken by Edwin Bates (retired Church army Captain) last Sunday.  This coming Thursday, 28th May, there will be a communion Service at 11:00 am, which will be followed by Lunch, so come and join us.

Camarotes

Just a reminder there's no Service at Aljambra on Sunday 17th May as there is a confirmation Service in Mojacar with Bishop David

Tomorrow, Sunday 10th at 6 pm.  Traditional Service of Evensong.

Camarotes

Well, if that's all that's wrong, come and join us tomorrow (Thursday 30th April) MORNING at 11:00 am, when we're having a communion Service, which will be followed by a social lunch.

Hope to see you there.

How many out there agree tha tit´s not the Service Content it´s the time that is the problem 6.00pm is not the best time. How many would vote for a Communion Service every Sunday at 9.00am.
Come on let´s hear from you!

Camarotes

It's a funny thing that, in spite of large numbers regularly looking at this thread, we're not experiencing the hoped for rush of folks wanting to come and worship with us each Sunday.  Seems that although those who do come all say how friendly we are and how much they enjoy the Services, we're apparently not doing something that others want/need.  So, this coming Sunday Evening at 6:00 pm (we can't do a Morning Service here as the Chapel's in use by another Church) we plan to have a more modern form of Worship than normal C of E.
So, if you are able to come, then please do, and tell us honestly what you think.  But if not, then having read this, could you please take the time to let us know, either by posting a reply, or by Personal Message, why you'll not be there, and what sort of Service might make you feel like giving it a try.
After all, we, as a Church are here for the community, not merely to please ourselves; and to make the wonder of Christ's death and resurrection something that is meaningful and relevant to our everyday lives.

Sunday 19th April - Evening Service at Aljambra - Important change:

In view of the fact that this year´s AGM, followed by lunch, will be held at Mojacar on Sunday 19th April and that a significant number of the Aljambra congregation will be attending, the service scheduled for Aljambra that evening, has been cancelled. Please pass this information on to any who might occasionally attend there. The next service at Aljambra will be Evening Worship on Sunday 26th April at 6.00pm

We had our Lent Lunch on 26th March -soup & bread, rather than our normal social meal after the Thursday Eucharist service taken by Father Alan. 21 of us sat down to 3 hearty soups & a good natter. €112.00 was donated in the basket for Church funds.

Hope all the Easter Services go well.  Wishing all a very Happy Easter from Hot and Humid Bagamoyo.

A good number of us went to the Holy Eucharist service at Aljambra yesterday.  As usual, it was a lovely service and as well as taking Communion we had a very interesting and thought provoking sermon on the Annunciation of the Lord which is normally celebrated on 25 March.  After the service we sat down to a Lent lunch which was very good and also gave us the opportunity of chatting with old and new friends.  A  really lovely morning and we look forward to the evening service this coming Sunday at 6.00pm  which, of course, is Palm Sunday.

Camarotes

After a lovely service last Sunday, taken by Rev Stanley just before his return to UK until Autumn, this coming Thursday we're looking forward to Communion at 11.00 am, taken by Canon Alan Bennett.  This will be followed, after the usual pause for Coffee and Chat, by a Lent Lunch served in the Chapel.
All are, as always welcome, but it would help with the catering if anyone who'd like to attend could let us know beforehand, though I'm sure there'll be plenty for everyone anyway.

Camarotes

This coming Sunday Evening (22nd March) there will be a Service of Evening Prayer taken by Rev Arthur Stanley, better known to many as Fr Paddy, an ex Army Chaplain, who's been helping us out the last 3 weeks, but expects to return to UK next Tuesday.  So last chance to meet up with him until he returns in the Autumn.

Camarotes

Tomorrow, Sunday 15th March, is, of course, Mothering Sunday.

The 6:00 pm Communion Service will be taken by Canon Alan Bennett, with readings from Exodus 2:1-10; Colossians 3:12-17 and John 19:25-27

So come and join us for a great celebration.

Camarotes

Service this coming Sunday Evening, 8th March, is to be a fairly traditional Service of Evening Prayer, based on the set Lectionary readings of Exodus 5:1-6:1 and Philippians 3:4-16.

For those who enjoy a good sing, I hope our choice of  'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross', 'I'm not ashamed to own my Lord', 'The day of Resurrection' and 'How Great Thou Art' will satisfy.

A good number of us went to the Holy Eucharist Service at Alhambra yesterday evening.  It is always a very special service but because it was St David's day all the hymns were sung to welsh tunes and afterwards there was a lovely buffet with welsh food which was very popular with everyone.  If this were not enough we were kept entertained by a quiz with questions on all things welsh and most of us did very badly!  A very friendly bunch of people and we look forward to going again.

Another lovely and very meaningful service for Lent yesterday.  During the service a lady, who has been worshipping here for quite a long time, took us all by surprise and sang a solo which was absolutely beautiful.  She has obviously had a singing career in the past for which most of us were completely unaware. We hope that that she will now sing for us all again.

There is a Eucharist service this coming Sunday at 6.00pm and because it is St. David's day the hymns will sung to welsh tunes and afterwards there will be a buffet of selected welsh dishes.  Sounds good to me!  Come and join us - it really is a lovely church and you will be made most welcome.

La senora Rana

Enjoyed the 'Lent' Service especially the surprise introductory solo to "Jesu lover of my soul" by the oldest member of the congregation who still has a wonderful voice not a dry eye in the place. Will definitely be there for the Special St David's day Communion next Sunday.
