Sound Issue

Hi,

I play my music using JRiver Audio Jukebox and always had 'acceptable' if not brilliant sound through my ancient speakers. I thought I would like better quality sound and after checking around purchased a pair of Creative Gigaworks T20 speakers. Unfortunately I cannot get them to sound as good as the old ones - I've tried every combination on the sound configeration and cannot get an overall decent basic setup.

My query is I have an onboard (?) C-Media AC97 sound setup that came with the recent motherboard change - it has it's own sound settings which appear pretty basic - I know this piece of kit is ancient and can be a resource hog but could it be this that is dragging the sound down and should I purchase a decent sound card instead?
