Sadly the road between Almanzora and Cantoria has not been opened yet, but I’ll circulate the news as soon as it happens.  Meanwhile, this coming Sunday Evening, 8th December, we’ll be celebrating Evensong at 6.00 pm at Cantoria Chapel, and then the following Thursday, 12th December, we’ll be having a Communion Service there at 11.00 am, at which we bring donations for those of the South American community, who are struggling to survive.  A warm welcome for any able to join us at either or both of these.

Just a reminder that there will be a communion service at Cantoria Chapel this coming Thursday, 28th November at 11.00 am, but that as the road from Almanzora is still blocked, the service on this occasion will not be followed by a meal.  Again details of the diversion necessary to reach this chapel with the usual road being closed are below.

If you plan to come to the service tomorrow morning, then please read this as we’ve just discovered the road between Almanzora and Cantoria is blocked.

So, no problem, but allow an extra 15 minutes.  If coming from the Arboleas direction, do NOT get off at junction 70, but continue on the A334 to junction 63, signed for Partaloa and Cantoria and follow signs for Cantoria and Albanchez on the A1100.

Stay on this road, by-passing Cantoria, for a total of 6½  Kms to take a junction on the left, signed for Cantoria and Almanzora.  At the ‘T’ junction, turn left to join the usual road, cross over the red metal arch bridge and find the Chapel 500 ms on the Right.

For those coming from Albox, join the A334 motorway, heading for Baza and leave, as in the above instructions at junction 63, Pataloa & Cantoria.

Typical isn't it.  Service booked at Cantoria tomorrow and road's closed.  Anyone wishing to get there, please read alternative directions below:

There will be one of our regular services of Communion this coming Thursday, 14th November at 11.00 am at Cantoria Chapel.  This is the service at which we bring donations for the poor, which we pass on to the Pastor of the South American Church in Albox immediately following the Service, so do hope we may again be overwhelmed with the generosity of our members.

There will be a service of Holy Communion at the Chapel in Cantoria, which we’re using until Aljambra is back in use, at 11.00 am this coming Thursday 31st October.  Being as this is the last Thursday of the month, the Service will be followed by a meal, hosted by Len and Janetta Causton at our home, just down the road in Almanzora village.  To assist in catering, it would be helpful if any wishing to join us who haven’t previously signed the list, drop me a quick email.

Our next service at Aljambra is this coming Thursday, 19th September at 11.00 am, which will be our Harvest Celebration, with gifts being taken to the South American Church afterwards. This service has been rescheduled from the original plan as the Chapel is to be closed for refurbishment on the 21st.  We don’t at present know when we’ll be able to return there, but have arranged to hold future services at Collyfer’s Chapel at Cantoria, directions for which will be posted later.

This Harvest Service will be followed by a bring and share meal, and being the last at this Chapel for a while, we do hope you will be able to be there, not just to celebrate Harvest but also to give thanks for the many years we’ve been able to use this lovely Chapel.

This coming Thursday, 12th September, sees the regular communion Service at 11.00 am at which we collect items of food for those in need who attend the South American Church in Albox.

But secondly, the Ayuntamiento plans to refurbish the Chapel and have asked that we therefore vacate the building by 20th September to allow work to start, though they assure us that this is only temporary and we will be able to return once the work is complete.

For this reason therefore, it has been decided that the Harvest Service, which had been planned for 26th September, should be brought forward by 1 week, so this can be held on Thursday 19th September. which allows us to decorate the Chapel as usual and to have the usual “Bring and Share” lunch after the Service, which we feel would be an appropriate way to celebrate the many happy years we have enjoyed at this Chapel.

Once work on the Chapel has been completed, normal service will resume, but in the meantime alternative arrangements will be made, which will be posted on this forum as soon as current proposals have been confirmed

Evensong this coming Sunday, 8th September at 6 pm is one not to be missed.  The service will be led by Fr Alan, who is using the occasion as part of training for Readers and Readers in training to demonstrate sung responses and chants, so will be more music based and more professionally produced than usual.  So, as I say, one not to be missed.

Since we have 5 Thursdays in August this year, the next Service at Aljambra will be next week, 29th August (being the last Thursday of the month), rather than today.  The Service will be Communion as usual and at the regular time of 11.00 am, but, in view of the heat, it’s been decided not to have a meal afterwards.

Camarotes

Sorry this is a late reminder, but our next Aljambra Communion Service is tomorrow, Thursday 8th August at 11.00 am, and at this Service we collect food and other items for the poor at the South American Church in Albox, where it is always very gratefully received.

Then Sunday Evening sees our next Evensong at 6.00 pm at the Chapel.

And my usual reminder that we are holding our monthly communion service and meal at Aljambra this coming Thursday, 25th July at 11.00 am.  It’s quite an important day in Spain as it’s the feast of St James, the patron saint of Spain, and for us it is also important as we plan to choose who will represent Aljambra on the Chaplaincy Council, following the resignation of our previous rep, David; a very hard act to follow as we owe him a huge debt of gratitude for all the work he’s done on our behalf over many years.

The meal this month is being hosted by Janet and I would ask, if you haven’t already done so, that you let me know if you expect to be there, to assist her in catering.

Next Thursday, being the last Thursday of the month sees our next Communion, followed by a meal, which will be hosted by Jean and myself.  This should be a very special service for two reasons.  First, it’s Ascension Day, which is one of the great feast days of the Church.  But secondly, this will also include a memorial service, celebrating the life of Jean Dumbrell, who passed away, aged 92, just before Easter.  A real character, who was absolutely regular at church so long as her health allowed, usually sitting on the front row with her daughter Karen, Jean will be sadly missed by us all, so hope you may be able to join us in remembering her as well as celebrating the wonder of Christ’s Ascension.

So we look forward to seeing you if at all possible, and if you are able to stay for the meal, could I please ask that, if you haven’t done so already, that you let me know so we can be sure to cater accordingly

Our next Communion Service is this coming Thursday, 9th May at 11.00 am, which is the Service at which we collect donations of food for the South American Church in Albox.

Then on Sunday 12th is Evensong at 6.00 pm

Two services at Aljambra over the coming week.  First, it’s communion at 11.00 a.m. on Thursday 11th, at which we’ll be receiving food donations for the poor at the South American Church in Albox, and then secondly, Evensong at 6.00 pm on Sunday 14th.

This coming Thursday, 28th March sees the next Communion Service at Aljambra at 11.00 am, followed on this occasion by a Lent Lunch (soup, bread and water).  Great to see you there if possible.

A brief reminder that we will be celebrating Evensong at Aljambra this coming Sunday (10th March) at 6 pm.

This coming Thursday, 28th February is the Communion at 11.00 followed by a meal at Aljambra, but if you’re hoping to stay for the meal it would help catering if you could confirm please.  And of course, next Tuesday, 5th March, being Shrove Tuesday,  there’s a Beetle Drive and Pancakes at 2.00 pm, with Bingo as well.  Tickets for this event are all of 5â,¬, so please get in touch if you’d like some.

Seeing next Thursday, being the 31st January, is the last Thursday of the month, we will be celebrating Holy Communion at Aljambra at 11.00 am, and this service will be followed by a social lunch, which is being hosted by Janet.  So we hope to see you, if at all possible at both, though if you haven’t already booked in, it would help with catering if you could let me know if you hope to join us for the meal.  There’s no charge for the meal, but of course any donations will be gratefully received and used to help with the not inconsiderable costs of running a Church in this part of Spain.

Whilst writing, I should perhaps mention that the next communion service in February will be on the 14th, St Valentines Day, when the theme will be very much on the subject of love, with opportunity for all to informally renew our commitment to those we love, so get the date down and come and join us then.

Camarotes

Well first of all we hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, wishing you all the very best for 2019.

And on that topic, we start the year with a Communion Service at Aljambra at 11.00 am on Thursday 10th January, at which, being second Thursday of the month, we will be receiving gifts of food for the poor at the South American Church in Albox.  Last month the response was incredible and the Pastor was quite overcome when the bags were delivered, and extremely grateful.

Then, on Sunday 13th at 6.00 pm is our monthly Service of Evensong, so hope we may see you at one or other of these.
