Hi,
To conclude this story I received an email from the Health Board this morning which said the following....

Basically, it says that as I already know because they sent me a copy of the procedure in December, any person who obtains a health card via the Convenio Especial is entitled to the standard health care service , which entitles them to receive specialist attention under the same conditions as any other person in Andalucia.

Then then go on to apologise for the disinformation provided by a professional and say that they have contacted the person responsible for Citizen Care in the Northern Part of Almeria, so that they can properly advise the professionals under their control so that access is given to specialist treatment (and all other entitlements) to any person who has subscribed to the Convenio Especial.

So... there you have it..... the convenio especial entitles you to the same treatment as anyone else :)

Fing is,its just an other option,i dont think anythinks perfect but if its the diffrence in been in Spain or not been able to live outside of the UK,its certainly worth looking at for folks in there 40,s & 50,s before any conditions turn up and yer carnt get cover.

just out of intrest, did anybody see the MEP  looking down her nose on C4 News when asked abought Brit health cover on the outside of the EU.....i dont think the current folks enrolled in the system will have a problem.... but it could be more difficullt once were EU  out, imigrant medical & waiting lists are the same talking point in Spain as they are in the UK.

Hi Sanitas don't cover everything and you also have co payment charges, IE a charge for each visit to Dr, blood tests, visit to specialist etc.Obviously better to be on state system if possible especially if you have pre existing conditions

Maura

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. I will pass it on.
Regarding convenio especial vs. health insurance. The convenio especial allows for pre-existing conditions without increasing the price or refusing to insure.

It's alright saying you can get insurance @ 900 € a year but then there is the cost of the prescriptions i am on the system thank god some tablets i got last week they cost me 8.95€ but there real price was 132€ i know people won't believe it but i questioned the price and the chemist confirmed it.

I understand yer point, but were all going to have to work with any changes that arise, anybody thinking of moving out of the uk now,in my veiw must pencil in medical costings, hopefully however deals will be done .

Ive processed three of these so far and none have this problem it seems like the fault lies with the green office in Huercal Overa, who are the ones who determine who has pensioner status, working status, on low income.

The medical centre starts the process off it then goes to Seville who then accept it and process it and accepts the transfers of money. I suggest they start off at the Medical centre if they don't speak Spanish take a translator and ask.

Moot point They would have received a contract with the official who signed it , does it have contact details on it perhaps someone can ring and enquire at the office who actually processed the convenio. its an idea

the other thing is,is it worth buggxering abought when you can get  Sanitas in your 50,s for 900e a year,a lot of the spanish working folks pay Sanitas even thou they have there SP National health, plus if your ill, there is no messing ie streight in,ex rays, docs, within hours and if you need a consultant or scan thats normaly within days.

Not done Convenio Especial but my understanding of the general process is you sort out your entitlement at the INSS office and then you go to the Health Centre in Huercal Overa (NOT the hospital).  The health Centre sort out registration with a doctor, green card etc.  However, if you say they already have a GREEN Junta de Adnalucia Health Card then it sounds like they have already been to the health centre so it sounds like there is either something wrong on a system somewhere or a miscommunication.  You say they had to provide "proof of residency" was this by way of a green EU residents card or Town Hall Padron certificate.  They will need BOTH (and of course can't get the green residency card until they have healthcare cover!)

Maura
you need to get your town hall admin lawyer on the case,ie to find out were the buck stops/starts,then get on the case.

my kid got the run around abought 3 weeks ago with a friend been billed after they used an e111 as a brit cit, then got billed 200e plus, when my kid questioned it at the hospital office....the lady thought we were no longer in the EU....hence the bill..... ( And  i ant tacking the wizz....)

good luck.

Hi,
I'm stumped. I am dealing with a couple who successfully applied for and received a health card via the convenio especial for people who are under retirement age and do not qualify for health benefits in any other way. They pay 60/month for the privilege. In order to obtain this card they were required to jump through various hoops including providing proof of residency etc.

However, when they go to their local health centre they are told that the 'system'  :banghead: indicates that they are temporary residents and therefore not entitled to non emergency treatment in spite of being able to produce their health card.

When contacted the department of health sent them to the INSS in Huercal Overa, who sent them to the hospital in Huercal-Overa who were unable to help.

Has anyone hit this barrier before? Who is responsible for the 'system' in question.

Thanks in advance for any sensible comments.
