I treat Agave cactus with the same chemical (Imidacloprid) that is used to kill the red weevil (picudo rojo) that infests Palm trees. The chemical can be bought from the Armeria (gun shop) next to the Mora Oil petrol station in Arboleas.

Don't let them try and sell you a small bottle of the chemical as it is about €8 for 50ml, buy a Litre (1000ml) which costs about €20. Do the maths with the chemical and water mixing ratio (10-15ml chemical to 10 Litres of water) to how much the chemical costs for the different size bottles, you will then see it is more cost effective by far in the long run to buy a Litre bottle.

Yes, we have lost one of our plants to this weevil and it looks like we are going to lose another one.  Is there anything we can do to kill the weevils and save the plants?

Have a look at the post from Cuidarbol about this problem. Not good!

Hola,

Has anyone found any of the above in their agarves, the obvious signs are the plants literally collapsing over a very short period, as they are being eaten from the inside.
