Almeria Undercover – €22.50

Thursday 18th February

Go behind the scenes as we visit a typical Almerian Greenhouse complex.

We see different types of greenhouse with alternative growing mediums and drainage systems. Be surprised at how high tech these facilities are with computerized control of ventilation, heating, climatic irrigation, and biological pest control,

Visit the seed production area with a demonstration of the production techniques of the young tomato plants.

Taste the different varieties of tomatoes, (pear, cherry, cocktail and salad), as well as the 'Almeria' and 'Cocktail' cucumbers with olive oil, bread and honey, vegetable sauces and the latest vegetable jams.

In this guided visit, we take a tour of the unique agriculture of Almeria, giving us a perspective of the past and present of Almeria salad and vegetable production, illustrating the importance of the under-plastic intensive agriculture for the economy of the province, and exploring the different cultivation techniques used and the most recent developments.

In addition, we will see the evolution of this agriculture, showing the application of new technologies with entertaining and colloquial demonstrations, and explanations on how these new technologies are contributing, every day, to the development of a new kind of agriculture, more sustainable and respectful of our environment.

During the visit, we will hear anecdotes and stories of life in the Almeria fields, to give a more complete vision of the idiosyncrasy of our region.

Our day continues in Almeria City where we have free time for a stroll, a shop and some lunch.
