Just had our eyes checked yesterday yet again at Salas Opticas in HO.  We've been customers for the last ten years and have always had excellent service- with a smile.

Their costs are excellent (especially compared to the UK), and, yes, they do speak very good English.

I have no idea what sort of checks you are looking for mickandjan, but Salas have been keeping an eye (sorry!) on my wife's worsening Cataract problem for the last 3/4 years and keep advising on the %eyesight remaining enabling us to make a judgement call as to when medical intervention is appropriate.

I used Specsavers in the UK for years.
Having moved to Spain three years ago I used an optician in Albox just over two years ago.
Two weeks ago I decided to coincide a trip to San Javier airport with a visit to Specsavers in Torrevieja. It's about 30 mins from the airport.
I booked an appointment on line, printed directions from the website and drove straight to it.
All staff are fluent English speakers.
I had the pressure test (the puffer), inside the eye photoed and looked at, all the usual tests and the result is that the difference between the new prescription and the two year old one is such a little change, that the optician recommended that I did not really need to change specs.
They also confirmed that they could obtain existing records from the previous UK branch if required.
Frame prices start at 29€ and they have the full range of lenses and add-ons.
I concluded that they were all helpful, honest, professional and knowledgeable.
I'll go there again.
(My good lady bride was also able to spend the rest of the day in most of the shopping centres in that neck of the woods).
If I had to live my life over, I'd live it over a pub.

Windows was unable to locate the requested file. Would you like a glass of wine instead?

Hi Sunflowers - Salas Opticas have staff who speak excellent English.   My new glasses arrived within 48 hours and seem excellent.
They also have a new machine which will photograph (?) the retina etc. to check the overall health of the eye.  Whilst the basic eye tests (sight, glaucoma etc.) are free, there is a 30 euro charge for this machine, but, although I haven't yet used it myself, I understand this also includes having the results sent to an opthamologist for analysis and, if necessary, a referral to a specialist.  Perhaps others can give more details?    :tiphat:

Salas in Huercal Overa next to Mercadona are very good.  They found I had Glucoma very early on.  And their prices are good.

Can you tell me if they speak good English please? If not can you recommend a good optician that does?
Many thanks

Consider going to Specsavers in Torrevieja. It's a longer journey, but they are excellent.

If you want a proper eye examination, you need to see an opthalmologist. Personally, I would recommend the guy in Vera, Mariana Gómez, Vera Vision.

Optometrista here in spain are not allowed to look at the back of the eye, you will need to ask your gp for a referral to the local hospital. They cannot photograph either or dilate the pupils

It has just occurred to me that the eye tests given by my usual optician, in Huercal Overa, are not the in depth ones that you get in the UK.   Apart from the puff test, checking pressure within the eye, there is only a sight test for the lens requirements.

In England, I remember opticians checking within the eyes, but have never had that done here.

So, does anyone know of any opticians that do this, routinely,  as part of the eye exam, locally?  8)
