Great. I know where Perel is, past la Vida bar & it's probably in the Hall on the left actually in Perel village, but where is Aljambra?

Drive up Av Lepanto from the traffic lights opposite the BP Garage in Albox on dual carriageway, past Campo de Futball on right and Mercadona on left.  In 600 yards the road narrows and a short distance later when faced with a No Entry sign (suicide corner), turn RIGHT, then keep STRAIGHT ahead at next junction.  Keep on this road forking LEFT at The Corner Shop, then crossing Rambla Hortichuela, past some new houses, and fork LEFT immediately after crossing Rambla Honda, following street lights and signs for Aljambra.  Mind the speed hump!  Aljambra Chapel/Community Centre is about half a mile on the left, with a car park just past it.

Just to clarify; the next Service at Aljambra is Communion at 11.00 am on Thursday 29th January, which will be followed by lunch and an opportunity for a good chat, hosted on this occasion by David and Cath.

It would help us with catering to know approximate numbers staying for lunch after the service. All are welcome but a reply to this post with numbers would be apprecated. The main course will be CAWL (a welsh stew made from lamb).

This coming Sunday, 1st February 2015, the Service at 6:00p.m. will be a celebration of CANDLEMAS, when the infant Jesus was presented at the Temple (Luke 22), where Simeon used the words that have subsequently become known as the Nunc Dimittis:
"Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; to be a light to lighten the gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel."

This next Sunday, 8th February, there will be a Service of Evening Prayer at 6:00 pm.

This is the fairly traditional form of Prayer Book Service that most of us older residents will probably remember from our younger days! Though the hymns are often rather more lively than I recall from my youth.

The Service usually lasts around 50 minutes, and is followed by Coffee and Chat, for those who aren't in a dash to get home before it gets too dark, afterwards.  A friendly bunch - honestly - so feel free to drop in and introduce yourself.

We very much enjoy the services at Aljambra and on Sunday we celebrated Candlemas which was a really lovely service.  They are a very friendly bunch of people and if you live in or around the Albox area and are looking for a church it is well worth coming to one of the services and staying for a coffee and chat afterwards.

Scriptures this Sunday are:

Gen 2: 6-26 (God's power displayed in the creation and filling of the Earth) and
Lk 8: 22-35 (Jesus demonstrates his power in stilling storms non the Lake and in the demon-possessed man of Genesara).

The Psalm is set as Ps 65.

And the Hymns are:

     The Lord is King
     Father, Lord of all creation
     Be still my soul
God of Grace & God of Glory

Post by: DRPrice on February 18, 2015, 16:47:40 PM
For anyone with Welsh connections, our 6p.m. service of Holy Communion on 1st March coincides with St. Davids Day. A selection of Hymns using well known Welsh tunes will give everyone an opportunity to have a good sing. The service will be followed with coffee and a selection of Welsh delicacies such as bara brith, welsh cakes, Welsh ginger bread etc. If you would like "a welcome in the hillside" here in the Almazora valley come along to the service. All are welcome.
Directions to the chapel in Aljambra are listed elsewhere in this forum.

This coming Thursday, 26th February the normal 11.00 a.m. Holy Eucharist will be replaced with a special service for Lent. All are welcome.
This means that the next Holy Communion service at Aljambra will be this coming Sunday, 1st March at 6.00p.m., which will also mark St. David's Day, details of which have already been posted.

Enjoyed the 'Lent' Service especially the surprise introductory solo to "Jesu lover of my soul" by the oldest member of the congregation who still has a wonderful voice not a dry eye in the place. Will definitely be there for the Special St David's day Communion next Sunday.

Another lovely and very meaningful service for Lent yesterday.  During the service a lady, who has been worshipping here for quite a long time, took us all by surprise and sang a solo which was absolutely beautiful.  She has obviously had a singing career in the past for which most of us were completely unaware. We hope that that she will now sing for us all again.

There is a Eucharist service this coming Sunday at 6.00pm and because it is St. David's day the hymns will sung to welsh tunes and afterwards there will be a buffet of selected welsh dishes.  Sounds good to me!  Come and join us - it really is a lovely church and you will be made most welcome.

A good number of us went to the Holy Eucharist Service at Alhambra yesterday evening.  It is always a very special service but because it was St David's day all the hymns were sung to welsh tunes and afterwards there was a lovely buffet with welsh food which was very popular with everyone.  If this were not enough we were kept entertained by a quiz with questions on all things welsh and most of us did very badly!  A very friendly bunch of people and we look forward to going again.

Service this coming Sunday Evening, 8th March, is to be a fairly traditional Service of Evening Prayer, based on the set Lectionary readings of Exodus 5:1-6:1 and Philippians 3:4-16.

For those who enjoy a good sing, I hope our choice of  'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross', 'I'm not ashamed to own my Lord', 'The day of Resurrection' and 'How Great Thou Art' will satisfy.

Tomorrow, Sunday 15th March, is, of course, Mothering Sunday.

The 6:00 pm Communion Service will be taken by Canon Alan Bennett, with readings from Exodus 2:1-10; Colossians 3:12-17 and John 19:25-27

So come and join us for a great celebration.

This coming Sunday Evening (22nd March) there will be a Service of Evening Prayer taken by Rev Arthur Stanley, better known to many as Fr Paddy, an ex Army Chaplain, who's been helping us out the last 3 weeks, but expects to return to UK next Tuesday.  So last chance to meet up with him until he returns in the Autumn.

After a lovely service last Sunday, taken by Rev Stanley just before his return to UK until Autumn, this coming Thursday we're looking forward to Communion at 11.00 am, taken by Canon Alan Bennett.  This will be followed, after the usual pause for Coffee and Chat, by a Lent Lunch served in the Chapel.
All are, as always welcome, but it would help with the catering if anyone who'd like to attend could let us know beforehand, though I'm sure there'll be plenty for everyone anyway.

A good number of us went to the Holy Eucharist service at Aljambra yesterday.  As usual, it was a lovely service and as well as taking Communion we had a very interesting and thought provoking sermon on the Annunciation of the Lord which is normally celebrated on 25 March.  After the service we sat down to a Lent lunch which was very good and also gave us the opportunity of chatting with old and new friends.  A  really lovely morning and we look forward to the evening service this coming Sunday at 6.00pm  which, of course, is Palm Sunday.

Sunday 19th April - Evening Service at Aljambra - Important change:

In view of the fact that this year´s AGM, followed by lunch, will be held at Mojacar on Sunday 19th April and that a significant number of the Aljambra congregation will be attending, the service scheduled for Aljambra that evening, has been cancelled. Please pass this information on to any who might occasionally attend there. The next service at Aljambra will be Evening Worship on Sunday 26th April at 6.00pm
Title: Albox (Aljambra) Form of Service
Post by: Camarotes on April 21, 2015, 09:12:26 AM
It's a funny thing that, in spite of large numbers regularly looking at this thread, we're not experiencing the hoped for rush of folks wanting to come and worship with us each Sunday.  Seems that although those who do come all say how friendly we are and how much they enjoy the Services, we're apparently not doing something that others want/need.  So, this coming Sunday Evening at 6:00 pm (we can't do a Morning Service here as the Chapel's in use by another Church) we plan to have a more modern form of Worship than normal C of E.
So, if you are able to come, then please do, and tell us honestly what you think.  But if not, then having read this, could you please take the time to let us know, either by posting a reply, or by Personal Message, why you'll not be there, and what sort of Service might make you feel like giving it a try.
After all, we, as a Church are here for the community, not merely to please ourselves; and to make the wonder of Christ's death and resurrection something that is meaningful and relevant to our everyday lives.

Looking further ahead, the next Thursday Morning Communion, followed by Lunch, is at 11:00 am on Thursday 25th June.  There's always plenty to eat/drink and no charge, though of course any donations will be gratefully accepted.  The hosts, providing lunch on this occasion are Robert and Lynn, and Lynn's meringues are to die for!!

In view of the apparent lack of enthusiasm for regular Sunday Evening Services at Aljambra, it has been decided to discontinue all but the long established service of Evensong, regularly held on the second Sunday of each Month, after the end of this Month.  It has, however been agreed that we should try having a two Thursday Services each Month, the existing Communion Service on the last Thursday of the Month, followed by lunch, plus an additional one, usually expected to be Communion, on the second Thursday.

So over the coming weeks we will be holding Services as follows:

Sunday 20th September      Evening Prayer and Praise at 6.00 pm

Thursday 24th September   Harvest Celebration with Communion at 11.00 am, followed by a bring and share lunch.

Sunday 27th September      Service of Holy Communion at 6.00 pm

Thursday 8th October           Service of Holy Communion at 11.00 am

Sunday 11th October           Service of Evening Prayer at 6.00 pm

Thursday 29th October        Service of Holy Communion, followed by lunch.

We hope to decorate the chapel for Harvest at 6 pm on the Evening of Wednesday 23rd September, when gifts, to be donated to the local food bank, and help, would be appreciated.

It would also help in preparation if anyone planning to join us for the meal could let me know in advance.

Aljambra Harvest Festival

Wikipedia says a Harvest Festival is an annual "celebration" when the crops are safely stored for winter, and our service at Aljambra Chapel was indeed a time to celebrate and give thanks for our good fortune in whatever shape or form it takes.  The fellowship, as always, was warm and friendly and if the noise level while sharing lunch was anything to go by, everyone was indeed happy to be there.  The produce collected was donated to local charities.

The fresh fruit and vegetables were taken straight after the Harvest Service to the Spanish Evangelical Church in Albox, where they were very gratefully received by Pastor Argentino for distribution to many needy with whom he has regular contact.

All the other gifts were collected from the Chapel and delivered to the local food bank in Albox.

How right that we should show our gratitude to God in helping those less fortunate within our community in practical ways.

Just to explain that although we are discontinuing the regular Sunday Evening Services at Aljambra, the first of the new additional Thursday Morning Communion Services (without the following meal that's usual on last Thursday of each month) is to be held this coming Thursday at 11.00 am, so hope you may feel able to join us then.

The long established pattern of Evening Prayer on second Sunday of each month will continue, with the next of these being held on Sunday 11th October at 6.00 pm.
